Why People Would Travel To See Me?

Dr. Bae has been a trailblazer in using state-of-the-art medical devices and innovative techniques for minimally invasive spine surgery and dynamic stabilization. He led the way in using growth factor tissue engineering for intervertebral discs, and he is a pioneer in multi-level artificial disc replacement for cervical and lumbar spine. A special passion of Dr. Bae’s is intervertebral disc repair and developing a biologic solution to disc degeneration.

Dr. Bae was the recipient of a 2014 grant from the National Institutes of Health to work on a revolutionary imaging technique for diagnosing back and neck pain in patients. In 2015, he received a North American Spine Society research grant, and Orthopedics This Week (a prominent industry publication) awarded him top honors as the safest surgeon in Greater Los Angeles.

In 2016, he was named a Top Doctor in Santa Monica—an exclusive designation based on patient reviews, research contributions, and dedication to education that is awarded to physicians who epitomize professional excellence and deliver the highest-quality patient care. In that same year, Becker’s Healthcare, a top provider of information for healthcare industry professionals, named him as one of only 22 recipients of their Spine Surgeon Leadership Award.

Dr. Bae has been included on the exclusive list of outstanding surgeons compiled by Super Doctors (another prestigious industry publication), and he has also been featured on The Doctors television program.

Dr. Bae received his bachelor’s degree in biomechanics from the Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. After graduating cum laude from Yale University School of Medicine, he completed his surgical internship at North Shore University Hospital, his orthopaedic surgical residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and his spine fellowship at Case Western Hospital in Cleveland.

Dr. Bae is a professor of surgery and director of spine education at Cedars-Sinai Spine Center.
