Dr. Bae was the recipient of a 2014 grant from the National Institutes of Health to work on a revolutionary imaging technique for diagnosing back and neck pain in patients. In 2015, he received a North American Spine Society research grant, and Orthopedics This Week (a prominent industry publication) awarded him top honors as the safest surgeon in Greater Los Angeles.
In 2016, he was named a Top Doctor in Santa Monica—an exclusive designation based on patient reviews, research contributions, and dedication to education that is awarded to physicians who epitomize professional excellence and deliver the highest-quality patient care. Dr. Bae received his bachelor’s degree in biomechanics from the Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. After graduating cum laude from Yale University School of Medicine, he completed his surgical internship at North Shore University Hospital, his orthopaedic surgical residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and his spine fellowship at Case Western Hospital in Cleveland.
Dr. Bae is a professor of surgery and director of spine education at Cedars-Sinai Spine Center. He is the author of many articles founded on his research, and he has been a frequent presenter representing the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. His current research centers on using adult stem cells to regenerate nerve tissue in patients with injuries to the spinal cord.
