Doctor Sang D. Kim MD

Orthopedic Spine Surgeon

Sang Kim, MD, MS is a board certified spine surgeon at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and The Spine Institute in Santa Monica. He specializes in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, adult spinal deformities, revision spine surgeries, motion sparing cervical disc replacements and laminoplasties, and microsurgical decompression of the cervical and lumbar spine. He also has extensive training in primary and metastatic spine tumors.

Dr. Kim graduated with cum laude honors from Yale University with a combined Bachelors and Masters of Science degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. He then graduated with cum laude honors from both Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Health Science and Technology program. During this time, he was awarded the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellows Scholarship as well as the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Continued Education Scholarship, which funded his medical school training. He completed his surgical internship at Massachusetts General Hospital and orthopaedics residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedics Program. While in residency, he was a visiting fellow at Peking Third Hospital in Beijing, one of the largest spine centers in China. He went on to train at one of the most coveted spine fellowships in Washington University in St. Louis with world experts in spinal deformity and cervical spine surgery with Drs. Lawrence Lenke, Keith Bridwell and Dan Riew.

Dr. Kim has published numerous basic science and clinical science articles. He has presented at national and international meetings. He was the recipient of the Charles Ray Best Clinical Paper at The International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS) in 2013.

Having moved to the United States at the age of nine from South Korea, Dr. Kim is fluent in Korean. He is also proficient in Spanish.
